Determine your class

While reviewing through various sociologist’s blogs, I came across a site posted by the N.Y. Times which provides a standardized way of measuring one’s class. As time progresses, the distribution of wealth in America increasingly reflects a very tall, thin pyramid. A majority of the wealth is held by very few hands, and the gap between the rich and poor continues to expand. This has caused a shifting definition of “middle class”. Many sociologists have done research in which they interview people at random to ask what class they feel they are in. Results showed that almost every single person believed they were middle class- whether they made $15,000 a year or $150,000 a year. Test it out…you may be surprised by the results.

  1. Hi Kirsten,

Yes, this is a very useful tool that can teach a new perspective on wealth, income and class.

    Keep up the good work!
